The back of a Shiite Muslim worshipper covered in scars is seen during a procession in Islamabad , Pakistan. The holiday of Ashura is a time when Shiites remember the death in A.D. 680 of Imam Hussein, a grandson of the Prophet Muhammad, the event that led to the split in Islam between Shiites and Sunni Muslim.
I remember seeing this traditional procession, back a few years ago, when another uprising was happening in one of these areas. I thought it must be a very hard tradition, to endure by these people.
