Have you ever taken the time to look at the people who seem to live the longest? They worked hard, took life one day at a time and made the most of whatever resources they had. Surviving the "Great Depression" and the 40's and 50's was something they did without any doubts. They knew what they had and didn't have. They raised as much food as they possibly could and what they couldn't eat, they shared with neighbors, or canned for later needs.
Mortality rates were high because they didn't have all the new antibiotics and such. But many of the strong one's made it to a ripe old age. Today, we have a weaker generation growing and it may make it to a ripe old age, but it will be the medicines/doctors that get us there.
The people who raised us are the one's who knew how to survive in a rough world. I wonder just how good we would fare, living the way many of our ancestors had to live?
