Celebrating Purim

Purim, meaning “lots,” is a joyous Jewish holiday that commemorates the saving of the Jewish people from annihilation in ancient Persia. The story is recounted in the Book of Esther, which is usually dated to the 5th century BCE. Here are some key points about Purim:

  • Background: During the Persian Achaemenid Empire, an official named Haman plotted to annihilate the Jews. Queen Esther, with courage and divine intervention, revealed Haman’s plan to King Ahasuerus (Xerxes I), saving her people.
  • Celebrations: Purim is marked by various traditions, including:
    • Listening to the Book of Esther (Megillah) in synagogue.
    • Sending food parcels (mishloach manot) and giving charity (matanot la’evyonim).
    • Dressing up in costume.
    • Eating a festive meal.
    • Participating in parties and parades (Adloyada).
    • Drinking alcoholic beverages, especially wine.

Purim expresses the idea that miracles and divine providence are above nature and human understanding. It celebrates Jewish survival despite the efforts of enemies and emphasizes G‑d’s intimate involvement in the world. 🌟

The holiday typically falls on the 14th day of Adar (in Jerusalem and all ancient walled cities) or the 15th of Adar elsewhere. The upcoming Purim dates are as follows:

  • 2023: Sunset, March 6 – nightfall, March 7
  • 2024: Sunset, March 23 – nightfall, March 24
  • 2025: Sunset, March 13 – nightfall, March 14
  • 2026: Sunset, March 2 – nightfall, March 3

Revelations, Scriptures, Coming True?

There are some of the events that some Christians believe are coming true or will come true soon, based on their interpretation of Revelation. However, there are different views and opinions among Christians about how to understand and apply Revelation, and there is no definitive or authoritative answer. The main message of Revelation is that God is in control of history and that he will fulfill his promises and purposes in his own time and way. Therefore, Christians are called to be faithful, hopeful, and watchful, and to worship and serve God in every situation12

Spirit of Christmas

May we, seek a bright, particular star to guide us in our celebration of the Savior’s birth. May we all make the journey to Bethlehem in spirit, taking with us a tender, caring heart as our gift to the Savior.

SCRIPTURES

1 Peter 4:12-14 ESV

Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery trial when it comes upon you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. But rejoice insofar as you share Christ's sufferings, that you may also rejoice and be glad when his glory is revealed. If you are insulted for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you.

Prayers

Recently, I met online, a lady who is fighting for her life, against breast cancer.  In the last few days, she has been told that the chemo treatments are not working and she must have surgery to remove it.  Then on to stronger chemo treatments.
It is my prayer that this person, who has touched my life, will come through this ordeal in glorious beauty to show the Lord's great and mighty works. I ask that you stand with me in prayer for her healing from this thing........... I thank you!

'WE REAP WHAT WE SOW.'

Funny how simple it is for people to trash God and then wonder why the world's going to hell.
Funny how we believe what the newspapers say, but question what the Bible says.
Funny how you can send 'jokes' through e-mail and they spread like wildfire but when you start
sending messages regarding the Lord, people think twice about sharing.
Funny how lewd, crude, vulgar and obscene articles pass freely through cyberspace,
but public discussion of God is suppressed in the school and workplace.
Are you laughing yet?
Funny how we can be more worried about what other people think of us than what God thinks of us.

God Given

Breast-feeding 101
I'm sure you've heard about the difference between a breast fed baby and one fed on formula from cow's milk.  God made sure that a mother's milk would be the best thing for her baby to be nourished on during it's growing years.  You can find many articles of how breast milk  is considered best used than formula for infants.  I've seen some mother's loose that bond between her and her baby because of using bottles, rather than breast feeding.  Actually if you look at the benefits, you will see that you don't have as much work, and it's already warm.

True Words

Speaking the truth, is sometimes very hard to do, with all the opposition we face in our world today.  America, is facing a battle, that will become hard fought.  We as believers, must be true to our religion and God.

The Bible clearly says that Christians will be persecuted. It still happens today in many different forms, from being mocked to murder. Still, you should not let persecution stop you from being a Christian. Accepting Jesus Christ as your Savior is one of the most important things you should do in your life.  Don't avoid it just because of the persecution.
