Tuesday Scripture

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
Hebrews 11:1

You wonder how he meant that; it could be taken in more than one way.

For example, "taking something on faith" is usually understood as pretty much the opposite of accepting something as based on evidence.

If something is "unseen" then the evidence would need to be indirect...

Also, "faith" is a broader concept that belief in the specific doctrine that Jesus is the resurrected Christ. Jews, Muslims, and people from many non-Christian traditions also see themselves as people of faith.
