Many people have family and friends around the world who are missionaries of some kind. Many religious organizations and churches send people all over the world to preach, teach and serve. My son is working as a missionary in Brazil and has been there for a year. But it is really easy to keep in touch with him across the miles thanks to modern technology.
If you are like me you want to make sure your family member or friends are safe and healthy. I use my hughesnet in huntville al at home to connect with Mike, my son. Our internet connection allows for us to see each other and to send photos or videos of special occasions. Mike even "attended" our daughters birthday party via internet connection and web cam! While most missionaries don't have time to call or email daily many of them are able to communicate at least weekly. And with the prevalence of internet cafes in all parts of the world now it is very rare for them to not have internet access.
While old fashioned snail mail is always an option, there are much better ways of keeping in touch like huges net satellite internet service. With computers and now even cell phones that have internet connectivity there is not reason you can't keep informed and share information easily and quickly no matter where your family or friends are around the globe.
